Going Green At G&M
Gatsby & Miller has taken another big step towards becoming a sustainable salon and will be recycling hair, metal, chemicals, PPE, plastic and paper using Green Salon Collective, a company that enables salons to become more ethical and sustainable environments.
We already have a water refill station that allows guests and the local people of Amersham to come in and refill their bottle at any time; we use ECOHEADSshower heads at the backwash which use 65% less water than a regular shower head, and we use biodegradable gowns and towels.
Building on this, we also plan to work towards gaining Green Salon Collective accreditation which demonstrates to guests, our team and the community that our business goes above and beyond when it comes to looking after people and the planet.
Traditionally, all hairdressing waste is sent to landfill and very little gets recycled which means there are no benefits for anyone. Green Salon Collective will now collect our waste and ensure that it is reused, repurposed or recycled rather than sent to landfill. Any profit is also used to support local charities such as Food Cycle and Haircuts 4 Homeless, while also supporting tree planting efforts.
Salon Manager Dawn Montgomery said: "We are always looking at ways in which we can reduce the impact we have on the environment as a business so we are delighted to team up with Green Salon Collective who share our vision. Every time you visit Gatsby & Miller you can rest assured that the products we use - even your hair - will be used again to benefit the community and the environment. "
