Yesterday was the end of my year long relationship with Gatsby and Miller, and it’s been a rocky road. The final straw was turning up in plenty of time for a 9.15 (much-needed) appt and at 9.30 finally asking why I was still waiting to be seen... turns out my stylist wasn’t there. I can only assume the hope was that he would materialise; in fact when I handed over my coat the words were: “I’ll just let x know you’re here.”. I wouldn’t say I got a real apology after I pressed to find out what was going on, just some worried faces and whispering and finally an acknowledgement that my stylist had never been in the building at all. I wasn’t offered an alternative solution for the same day, just asked if I wanted to book a future appointment. I received no phone call of apology, or offer of a goodwill discount next time. People go sick and things happen, but it’s how you deal with unexpected incidents that’s important to a business. I wasted a lot of time and parking money and have ended up at work today with hair that still desperately needs colouring.Mind you, that’s not the first time I’ve had issues with obtaining or keeping existing appointments. Nor is it my only issue with the salon.G&M recently moved to a lovely new location. It’s really very nice. It has a cafe at the front. You can have alcoholic drinks and snacks before, during, or after your appointment. But the cappuccino or latte you used to have at the old salon will now cost you from £2.80. On my first visit to the salon I was offered a cappuccino. Luckily I spied a price-list as I was about answer. When I queried it, I was told if I wanted a “free” coffee it would be “basic”. I certainly felt the disdain. “Complimentary” would be a better word. “Could I offer you a complimentary white or black coffee or tea? Or if you’d prefer you could upgrade to a cappuccino off the menu and we’ll pop it in your bill.” That’s how I would phrase it. (Actually, no, I’d still give people spending nigh on £100 a free cappuccino.)I have my colour done about every 5 weeks. The tint+foils service used to cost me £75 with the lovely Luke. But when the salon moved premises Luke stopped doing women’s hair and told me I really needed to use one of the style directors, which increased the price to £85. I book it with a rough dry because I don’t need a blow dry on my non-working days, and also because I’m already spending enough money. So imagine my horror when on my second appointment in the new salon, while the foils were literally still in my hair, I was told that I had to dry my own hair. I was spending £85 and I had to dry my own hair. They were going to set me up at the blow-dry bar and give me a hairdryer and brushes - yay - and I would dry it myself. “No, thank you, I’d rather just leave.” I said. “But I need to check your colour when your hair is dry.” the stylist said. “Ah, well that is a conundrum,” I replied, “but you do offer a rough dry.” “Yes but if we’re busy or short-staffed you have to do it yourself now, although you could upgrade to a proper finish from £27?” Err, no thanks. Meanwhile, the conversation across from me was running along very similar lines: “...So I’m going to set you up at the blow-dry bar and you’ll dry your own hair ok?”. It wasn’t. It really wasn’t ok. The poor lady customer went bright red and muttered “erm, fine” in a shocked whisper. I’d be amazed if she went home and said: “Oh, the best thing ever happened to me today: I GOT TO DRY MY OWN HAIR AT THE HAIRDRESSERS! Just what I’d always dreamed of.” She looked near tears.You’ll probably notice a theme to my commentary: cost. Hairdressing is a dear do (forgive the pun). I have unnaturally blonded hair so I know that I’m signing up for some expensive maintenance. But I hate feeling ripped off, and that’s what I feel since the move to the new salon premises. I imagine the rent is very expensive, but the building accommodates more customers. Don’t rip off your existing, loyal customers in subtle ways, concentrate on bringing in new clients
Had a quick haircut here and hair needed redoing. Manage to fit me in without an appointment and did not charge either! Had a coffee and salad with was fantastic and got 50% oft
BEST SALON!!! Have been to the salon 3 times now and every time I’ve been they’ve been better from the last time;From the warm welcoming from the guys who run café who say welcome as soon as you walk in the door and they’ve recently rebranded to “Cafe 67”To the smiley receptionist who welcomes me to the salonTo the boys at modern grooming who have for the third time given me the best haircut I’ve ever had. It’s also the small things which they do, complimentary tea/coffee Check out in chair - I don’t have to go to reception to pay, they can take my bill there and then. It’s a top of the range salon and the best in Amersham, I certainly won’t be going anywhere else.
I went to Gatsby for the first time today and had Steph King do my hair, it was a very good experience she is very friendly, professional and did a wonderful job on my hair, I would highly recommend her and will be going back.
Had my eyebrows waxed with the lovely Jess today!!! Couldn’t recommend her more; She was patientShe was thorough She was a perfectionist Will only go and see her from now on!!! Salons amazing and all the staff are lovely, best salon I’ve been too in ages
Great place to go for a haircut. They have everything there for everyone and even have a really nice cafe which has the best coffee in town and have loose leaf tea, beers, wines and gin. What more would you want? Will definitely be going back.
On my first visit I was extremely pleased. Lovely cut and colour. It was perfect. However 6 weeks later I returned for same again and it was a different story. I had the same stylist but he must have had an off day. I wasn’t at all pleased when I got homeI left the salon with all dye stains around my forehead - I couldn’t get it off for a couple of days! The colour is patchy, so much so, that my daughter asked why I’ve been trying to colour my own again !!The cut is ok but nothing like the first time. I’m sorry but I won’t be returning again. Such a shame as it’s a lovely salon and the staff and my stylist were lovely
I had a spray tan with the lovely Jess at Gatsby and Miller last week and I have been over the moon with the result! It’s a tan I’ve not used before but I would 100% use it again. The colour was perfect and very natural. I’d rate it very highly against other spray tan brands I have had before for a few reasons; it didn’t feel sticky after application, didn’t stain my bed sheets, it’s an amazing colour, it lasted 5/6 days without starting to fade, it faded evenly and it’s streak free!Jess was very thorough and did an amazing job of my tan and making me feel comfortable and at ease. She was lovely and I will definitely be booming back in with her soon and be recommending her and the tan to my friends! Thank you!
Couldn’t recommend jack more! He is a senior stylist and did a balayage for me today, I literally can’t fault how it came out at all- so happy with it! Not only that but he was an absolute pleasure, I certainly won’t be going anywhere else for my hair now!

Excellent lunches, and coffees there. I go there almost everyday and the 2 guys that work there are very quick and on time with their service. Thankyou soo much for doing an awesome job and keep up with the great work. Will definitely recommend to my family and friends.
I travel all the way from oxford to get my hair cut from Luke Scatley, he gives an incredible service with great attention to detail. Always listens to what I want but adds his professional opinion to make sure I get the best hair cut that grows out perfectly. Would give him 10/10 and recommend to anyone.
Jack was a great hairdresser, giving me an amazing cut and blow dry as well as excellent service throughout. The salon itself was really lovely and all staff super welcoming.
Decided to have a wash and blow dry, just because. Very friendly, welcoming staff. Lovely wash (albeit the water was a little cool) and unhurried blow dry by Beena. And a good cup of coffee. The new set up is very smart, if a little impersonal, but that may just be me. Definitely recommended
first time and was not disappointed..Staff welcomed us in and were friendly and polite. We ordered breakfasts and we were not disappointed was delicious...Highly recommended this little gem...Who'd have thought a cafe in a hairdressers!! We will be back again 😊
Highly recommend the “modern grooming” barbers, Luke (master barber) did the best hair cut I’ve had. Will definitely be returning to the barbers again.
It’s a really nice salon, but unfortunately I had the worst experience in my life.I have paid 43£ for my “hair cut and blow dry” and I had to pay another properly trained hairdresser at another salon in the same day so I can walk on the street with my head uncovered.Realy disappointed!!👎
Deepa has been my hairdresser for many years, and she has been consistently brilliant! An expert colourist, she has taken the time to get to know me and my hair, before working her magic and finding me a colour I’m really happy with (not an easy task!) She also does a great cut and blow-dry, so I’m lucky to get the full treatment. Not only is she extremely talented and professional, she genuinely cares about her clients and she’s become a firm friend. I’m also fortunate to have my hair done in the brand new, Amersham-based Gatsby & Miller salon, which is modern, light, spacious and offers all you would want from a hair or beauty appointment. The staff are all highly trained and so personable, which makes it a great experience. There’s even a lovely café in the salon, so you have everything you need. From someone who is a client-facing business owner and very selective about my hair requirements, I can highly recommend a visit!
New person to the salon and I brought in a mess of hair! Quanchea did an amazing job and showed her technical knowledge and talked me through what she was doing and why. Really impressed. Also as a newbie I was given 25% off the first cut. Have made my next appointment already.

I would just like to say that I highly recommend Anna Larkin at Amersham Gatsby & Miller. I have had a fear of hairdressers for over a decade, I have always coloured and cut my hair myself, however since having my youngest child I have left my hair to grow out over the last 3 years and only gave it the minimalist trim every few months. My hair grew nice and long and my brunette came through. It looked great but then as the blonde grew out and kept being chopped off as I trimmed I felt really plain Jane. After seeing a transformation that Anna created for a friend I decided to go for it, at my consultation Anna listened to what I asked for and added what she thought would look great too. Anna gave me a baylayage with a face frame and kept my hair long (other hairdressers previous have always chopped it off)100% I'd go back to Anna.

Always very happy with the results from here. Due to moving away, I have visited different hairdressers twice and both times I have hated it and come back to G & M as soon as possible to have it redone. The products they use all make your hair feel amazing and they really know what they are doing when it comes to highlights. I have seen different stylists here over the years and always been happy. Recently I've started seeing Tanya and I will stick with her for as long as I can. She really listens and understands what I want and performed an absolute miracle last time to achieve it! Very happy!!
I was a new customer and made to feel very welcome, great wash and cut by Deepa. Very knowledgable and professional balayage colour by Dawn.
Total shambles !!. Luke was excellent, however poor Lauren didn't have a clue though she did her best. I do expect a professional service which I did not receive today. Deepa who cut my hair in October totally ignored me. Very strange and unfriendly !!!. Dawn was both helpful and kind. Lets hope for a general all round improvement in the future.

Cannot recommend Gatsby & Miller highly enough. Having had the same hair team in London for more than 20 years I was understandably nervous about changing salons. Could not be more happy with the delightful Dawn. She has worked her hair magic and my waist length highlighted hair always gets comments from friends and strangers asking me to recommend where to go. Well here it is... hair Nirvana! Quanchea did a fantastic job on my curly hair, giving me a lovely graduated bob, with lovely highlights/lowlights. One of my favourite haircuts I’ve ever had! She was always extremely professional, friendly, and clearly cared so much about her work and making sure everything was perfect. The salon itself had a nice warm atmosphere, and you were made to feel very comfortable & welcome- would highly recommend!

Couldn’t recommend Gatsby and Miller enough, absolutely love Natalie who has been giving my incredible blow drys every Saturday for the last 3 months and several other appointments before that. All the wonderful girls who work Saturdays and give me amazing scalp massages also and always compliment my eyelashes 😘 Saturdays aren’t the same without a trip to the salon and my usual blow dry. Don’t know what I will do when Natalie goes on maternity I’ll be lost without you! Xx
A wonderful relaxing salon which I have used for a number of years now. Everyone is very welcoming,cheerful and helpful. I cannot speak too highly of Deepa and her hairdressing expertise. She listens to comments and concerns and I always enjoy talking to her about all kinds of things. Thank you Deepa for making my monthly session very enjoyable and for keeping my hair in good shape.
